ORCHARD CLOSE (Now THE OLD WICK)
Believed to have been built around 1650 The Old Wick has had many names. These include Rose Cottage, then Old Wick, then Orchard Close before reverting back to The Old Wick sometime after 1971.
Notable owners include Lady Jenks, the wife of Sir Maurice Jenks who was Lord Mayor of London 1931-1932 and who bought the house then called Orchard Close, from Annie Richardson on the 18th October 1946. In June 1951 and still called Orchard Close it was purchased by Dr Michael Fordham, remembered by many in the locality for his medical practice in Princes Risborough and who moved to Orchard Close from “Three Ways” on Askett Village Road. Philip Dewe moved to The Old Wick from another house in the village that being Old Rose Cottage (previously Clem Cottage) having bought The Old Wick and Littlegates in the 1970's. Philip allowed his brother and sister to live at Littlegates. Philip later moved to Littlegates after selling to the current owners in 2001.
The Old Wick was described in the 1996 Conservation Survey as “an historic dwelling of character with a large and delightful old tiled roof”.
